Utopia. N
Concept.
Try to imagine that our mother nature is conscious. I started with the fantasy that“She” is able to think, to illustrate ideas and to dream. She has this ideal world, her utopia, where human can live peacefully with nature. Human became a part of the nature, yet for human to fully fulfill this idea completely, they need to lose their identity. Human, along with their upsurge arrogance and self-esteem, had done too much harm to nature. Mother Nature is gentle and loving, she would love and tolerant human. Human can be just like other creatures, gratefully accept themselves as a part of nature.

With this concept, I decided to go visit nature and experience it. It was a rainy day, I stepped in Central Park and began my journey to nature.
My experience with nature was delightful. I enjoyed the rain, fog, and every other natural elements, until I found a tree which is covered by wound craved by human. The tree healed itself by growing new tissues from their scars. This further enhance my imagination of the utopia. Instead of viewing the environment issues from a human’s viewpoint, I want to have a different perspective.
I started my experiment after my journey to nature. I put beads on organza and shake the fabric to observe their movement. I tried to mimic the way rain drop moves and fall. I was deeply inspired by this experiment and was able to apply the way water moves into my design.
For the second experiment, I tried to mimic the way the rain dropped on the tree branches, and bounced around in the air. I put the colors I observed in nature and use tree brenches to splash them onto fabric. I was greatly inspired by the outcome and decided to use this in my collection.
I recalled my journey to nature. I stood in the rain and feel the wind gently blowing water on to my body and my face. For the third experiement, I tried to mimic that experience. I wore a pure white shirt and have my partners spray colors onto me constantly and in the end fromed a beautiful art piece, which some details inspired me for my upcoming designs.
I intended to mimic the way rain drops with beads. The beads are loose and would be able to move up and down on the invisible thread.
For this part I intended to rebuild the way nature recover from the wounds carved by human; like the ones I saw on the trees. People put down words like “love“, “live“ and names on trees. And the tree grow new tissue for self-recovery.
I tested a few shape while draping with the neo prene bonding and found out some interesting silhouette that greatly inspired me. For this material is stiff and combining with soft fabric like jersey increased tremendous possibility for draping.
